Urgent Eye Care. 24/7 Access to World-Class Retinal and Ophthalmic Expertise
Rapid specialist assessment for sudden changes in vision, flashes and floaters, eye trauma, post-operative concerns, and suspected retinal or sight-threatening eye conditions.
When vision changes suddenly, early specialist assessment matters. Some retinal and ophthalmic conditions are time-critical, and prompt diagnosis may help preserve sight and expand treatment options. At The Retina Clinic London, we provide a consultant-led urgent eye care service, combining advanced retinal and ophthalmic imaging with expert diagnosis, personalised treatment planning, and direct access to treatment when needed.
Led by Professor Paulo Stanga and an internationally recognised team, we offer rapid access to world-class expertise, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Patients and referring optometrists can contact us directly, with no referral required. Comprehensive specialist assessments start from £650 and include advanced diagnostic testing where appropriate.
Our expertise is rooted in retinal, macular and vitreous disease, but our service extends beyond retina alone. We also assess patients with symptoms that may relate to inflammation, glaucoma, anterior segment disease, optic nerve disorders, post-surgical complications, or wider medical conditions affecting the eye.
Importantly, we are able to move quickly from diagnosis to treatment. With an onsite operating theatre, advanced laser facilities, and access to urgent medical and surgical retinal care, many patients can be assessed and, where clinically appropriate, treated without unnecessary delay.
For patients and practitioners alike, our focus is simple: rapid access, accurate diagnosis, expert treatment, and reassurance when it matters most..

What happens when you contact us
Your enquiry is reviewed by our team so we can advise whether you should be seen at The Retina Clinic London, directed to hospital emergency care, or booked into the most appropriate specialist pathway.
Where suitable, we will offer the earliest clinically appropriate appointment. Same-day or expedited assessment and treatment may be available, depending on the diagnosis, clinical suitability and operational availability.
A careful, specialist assessment
Urgent symptoms deserve careful assessment. At The Retina Clinic London, your urgent assessment may include advanced retinal imaging, optical coherence tomography, ultra-widefield imaging, examination of the retina and, where indicated, a full peripheral retinal assessment. The clinic’s patient pathway already emphasises detailed vitreoretinal examination, advanced imaging and same-day urgent treatment options where clinically appropriate.
Possible treatment pathways
If treatment is required, your plan may include retinal laser, intravitreal injections, further imaging, monitoring, referral to another specialist, or vitreoretinal surgery where appropriate. The Retina Clinic London’s treatment pathways include retinal laser, intravitreal injections and vitrectomy surgery, each guided by specialist assessment.
