This page is for patients, optometrists, and referrers who would like an overview of a clinical trial in diabetic retinopathy. Participation is voluntary, and suitability can only be confirmed after formal screening.
What is being studied
We are currently identifying suitable adult patients with diabetic retinopathy for a clinical trial.
The aim of this research study is to investigate whether an investigational drug, given by infusion, may help reduce the severity of diabetic retinopathy in selected patients.
As this is a clinical trial, the study drug is investigational and is only available as part of the research study.
Who may be eligible
You may be suitable for pre-screening if:
- you are aged 18 or over
- you have diabetic retinopathy
- you may meet the study eligibility criteria
- you are able to attend screening and follow-up visits if required
Eligibility will be assessed by the study team and confirmed only after formal screening.
What happens next
If you are interested, our team can first discuss your condition and medical history to see whether the trial may be suitable.
If appropriate, this may be followed by pre-screening and then full screening, which may include retinal imaging and other study-related assessments.
Eligibility is assessed on an individual basis according to the study criteria.
For optometrists and referrers
We welcome referrals for adult patients with diabetic retinopathy who may be suitable for a clinical trial.
Helpful referral information includes:
- diagnosis and relevant clinical background
- recent visual acuity
- recent retinal imaging, if available
- recent ocular treatment history
Practical points
Participation is voluntary. Suitability can only be confirmed after formal screening. Pre-screening may be used where appropriate before a full study screening visit.
